The first polystyrene (Styrofoam) foam collection in the Upper Valley took place at the former Cornish General Store in August of 2021. People came from near and far to drop off their foam, and volunteers drove the collection to Palmer, MA for recycling.

Since then, the Cornish Recycling Center has begun accepting EPS #6 polystyrene foam on a regular schedule and Sustainable Lebanon and the Rotary Club of Lebanon, NH have partnered to bring Styrofoam recycling to a broader area, with a collection in Lebanon coming up on April 1, 2023.

In addition, the Department of Public Works in Gilford, NH and the Northeast Kingdom Solid Waste Management District in Lyndonville, VT have acquired the densifier machine required to process the foam, so the drive is not as far to recycle this material and keep it from filling up landfills, being incinerated, and releasing harmful chemicals into our air and water.

Please join us in making a difference here locally to help the Earth! Save your #6 expanded polystyrene foam packaging (EPS), and CLEAN #6 polystyrene food trays and bring them to the Cornish Recycling Center during regular recycling hours on Saturdays from 9 am – 2 pm.
